On May 10, 2024, Nicanor Boluarte, brother of Peru’s President Dina Boluarte, was arrested for allegedly participating in a corruption network, using his sister’s influence to allocate funds in exchange for bribes.

Boluarte is accused of leading a scheme to appoint officials in return for support in registering a political party, known as the Citizens for Peru party.

Arrest warrants were also issued for 21 others, including the president’s lawyer, Mateo Castañeda. Castañeda faces charges of obstructing the investigation.
